Outspoken media mogul, Afia Schwarzenegger successfully launched her Leave2Live Foundation on February 14 but that could not have happened without telling the world her tribulations as a domestic violence sufferer.
Schwarzenegger during the launch of the NGO aimed at fighting against domestic violence in the country shared the torture she experienced during her six month marriage to Lawrence Abrokwa. The comedienne in her speech at the launch revealed that she encountered physical, emotional, financial and other kinds of abuse. According to her, she never thought she was in an abusive relationship because she was blinded by love.
Valentina Nana Akua Agyeiwaa as she is known privately further disclosed that she used to console herself that her ex-husband’s unemployment was the cause of the abuse so things would get better when he finds a job but that never happened. She stated without mincing words that “I loved my abuser”.
The controversial radio and TV presenter who turned 35 on Val’s Day later revealed that her ex-hubby brought prostitutes to her matrimonial home when she was away. To her, she paid the sex workers her ex-husband slept with in her house.
The mother of three added that she received severe beating anytime she voiced against her former husband’s sexual encounter with prostitutes in her house.
She further noted that pastors and other respected personalities in the society always begged her to stay in the abusive marriage anytime she decided to walk out.
