Ghanaian actress and socialite Efia Odo has expressed concern over the devastating floods that affected parts of Accra, questioning why many residents continued to navigate dangerous conditions despite the heavy rainfall.

In a post shared on social media, the actress highlighted the difficult reality facing many Ghanaians who are forced to leave their homes even during severe weather because of the need to work and earn a living.

She argued that the situation reflects a deeper societal problem where financial struggles often push people to ignore risks to their personal safety.

“It blows my mind that it rained for hours, yet so many people still felt they had no choice but to leave their homes just to make a living. We’ve been conditioned to believe that making money comes before our own safety, even when the consequences can be deadly. In many ways, we’re subconsciously becoming the walking dead!!!” she wrote.

Efia Odo stressed that the repeated flooding experienced in parts of the country requires immediate attention beyond public discussions and political disagreements.

According to the actress, authorities must prioritise practical measures to address the causes of flooding and prevent communities from suffering similar devastation every year.

“Politics must be put aside and urgent action must be taken to address these recurring floods. Year after year, lives are lost, homes, properties, and businesses are damaged!” she stated.

Her comments come amid widespread reactions from Ghanaians and public figures following the latest floods, which disrupted lives, damaged properties and left several communities struggling with the aftermath of the heavy rains.

The actress further called for a shift from temporary responses after disasters to sustainable solutions that can protect residents and improve living conditions.

“Ghanaians deserve infrastructure and long-term solutions that protect lives, not just promises after every disaster,” Efia Odo further said.
