Ghana’s business and media community has been thrown into shock following reports that renowned businessman and media owner Stephen Boateng, popularly known as Kessben, has reportedly died in the early hours of Thursday, August 20, 2026.

The reports, which began circulating in the early hours of Thursday, have sparked sadness and disbelief among people familiar with the veteran entrepreneur and owner of the Kessben Group of Companies.

However, the reports of his death are yet to be officially confirmed by his family, representatives or the management of Kessben Media as of the time of filing this report even though some media personalities have shared the news.

The cause of the reported death is also unknown at the time of making these reports. Details surrounding what may have happened to the businessman have not yet emerged.

Kessben, whose full name is Stephen Boateng and who is also known as Kwabena Kesse, has over the years established himself as one of Ghana’s prominent entrepreneurs, with interests spanning media, education, hospitality and other areas of business.

He is particularly known for building the Kessben media brand, which includes Kessben FM, Kessben TV and Aseda TV. He has been credited with making significant investments in Ghana’s media industry, particularly in the Ashanti Region.

Beyond broadcasting, Kessben has also ventured into education and other businesses. He has been associated with the establishment of educational institutions and has in recent years also been known publicly as Lawyer Stephen Boateng, following his call to the Ghana Bar.

His journey has not been without challenges. Kessben previously spoke publicly about difficulties he encountered in his business career, including a money-laundering allegation involving the then Bureau of National Investigations, which he described as one of his biggest challenges.

Despite the controversies and challenges that have accompanied his business journey, Kessben has also received recognition for his philanthropic activities and investments.

His media organisation has, on several occasions, supported vulnerable groups and organised programmes for the aged. He has also been praised publicly for his contributions to Ghana’s media and education sectors.

As news of his reported death continues to circulate, tributes and messages of concern are expected to emerge from colleagues, business associates, media personalities, politicians and members of the public who have interacted with him over the years.

Also, further details are expected to emerge once the family or management of Kessben Media officially responds to the reports.
