Ghanaian music heavyweights Sarkodie and Stonebwoy have been caught up in what appears to be a disagreement over what as artists their principles should be.
The development follows Sarkodie’s recent comments urging his SarkNation fanbase to stay focused on his music and brand instead of getting involved in toxic rivalry with other fanbases.
Stonebwoy, reacting to the issue, took to X to address Sarkodie directly as he attempted to paint the Sark Nation boss in a particular light.
According to Stonebwoy, he called Sarkodie the day after his successful RAH show in the UK to congratulate him, and the two spoke for more than 10 minutes.
He said that after his own OVO show however, Sarkodie posted some video on social media with a subtle shade, although he admitted that only Sarkodie could explain the message he intended to communicate with the post.
Stonebwoy explained that after making what he described as a factual tweet, he still reached out to Sarkodie because the rapper was posting some cryptic messages.
He said Sarkodie called him back immediately, although he missed the call initially. When he returned the call, the two reportedly spoke for more than an hour about the music industry, behaviour and their different perspectives.
Stonebwoy claimed that during their conversation, Sarkodie was very clear that no artiste could be forced to uphold any form of principle.
He interpreted Sarkodie’s position to mean that artistes in the industry sometimes have to play along with certain situations as long as it benefits them because people have different priorities.
Stonebwoy therefore suggested that Sarkodie’s recent comments should also be viewed through the same lens.
He wrote: “Without PRINCIPLE, advice is an OPINION.”
The dancehall artiste’s post appeared to challenge Sarkodie to explain the apparent contradiction between his private comments and his public position.
However, Sarkodie did not let the post slide.
In a sharp response, the rapper rejected Stonebwoy’s interpretation and insisted that he had never said artistes should simply play along with things because it benefits them.
Sarkodie revealed that the first question he asked Stonebwoy during their phone conversation was about what his problem was.
He argued that if Stonebwoy felt the post was directed at him, then that should tell him how he personally connected with it.
Sarkodie further stated that he has never made a post in his career intended to shade Stonebwoy and that he does not allow other people’s interpretations to determine how he views situations.
He also addressed Stonebwoy’s concerns about him associating with people who have previously disrespected him.
According to Sarkodie, just because he hangs out with people who have disrespected Stonebwoy does not automatically mean that he supports their actions.
The rapper went on to reveal that this was not the first time Stonebwoy had raised similar concerns with him.
Sarkodie said that whenever such situations occurred, he would take time to speak with Stonebwoy privately and find out what had happened.
Despite their differences, Sarkodie noted that he had continued to reach out to Stonebwoy, congratulate him on his achievements and even invite him to his RAH show.
He also said he had previously discussed doing shows together with Stonebwoy and celebrated the milestones he had achieved.
Sarkodie therefore urged his colleague not to twist his words or attach meanings to them that he never intended.
Sarkodie’s final statement however appeared to deliver the biggest blow in the exchange as he stated emphatically that: “And my G you don’t need to fck with me I’m pretty sure I add no value to your life to even worry about me.”
