Ghanaian rapper Yaa Pono has clarified that he has no issue collaborating with Shatta Wale, but says an artiste should have a clear reason for approaching another musician for a feature.
According to the rapper, collaborations work best when an artiste already has a particular song and creative direction in mind before reaching out to a potential collaborator.
Speaking during an interview with Dr. Pounds on Hitz FM, Yaa Pono said he would have no difficulty working with Shatta Wale if the right song and circumstances came up.
“I don’t have a problem working with him [Shatta Wale]. But if you’re working on a song, you need to have someone in mind for a feature before contacting them. That won’t be something difficult for me to do,” he said.

His comments suggest that his position on collaborations is less about personal relationships and more about how he approaches his music.
Yaa Pono also pointed to his existing working relationship with Sarkodie as an example of how he handles features. The two rappers have collaborated on songs in the past, meaning there is already a creative connection between them.
“Sarkodie and I have songs. I also have songs with him. So, if I’m making a song and I feel like having him on it, I will send it to him,” Yaa Pono stated.
