The unveiling marks another step in Roman Fada’s efforts to keep the Ghana Freedom Party active following the death of its founder, whose political journey made her a recognisable figure in Ghanaian politics.

Akua Donkor, who founded the Ghana Freedom Party in 2012, died on Monday, October 28, 2024, at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, formerly known as Ridge Hospital, in Accra.

Her death came at a time when she was preparing to contest the 2024 presidential election, having been listed as one of the presidential candidates.

Before her death, Akua Donkor had selected Roman Fada as her running mate for the December 2024 general elections. Roman Fada, a media personality and broadcaster, had also been associated with the entertainment industry, including his work as manager of legendary highlife musician Daddy Lumba.

Following Akua Donkor’s passing, the leadership of the Ghana Freedom Party selected Roman Fada as her replacement and new presidential candidate on November 4, 2024.

However, his attempt to contest the 2024 presidential election was unsuccessful after the Electoral Commission disqualified him over errors and irregularities identified in his nomination forms.

Despite the setbacks, Roman Fada has remained associated with the party and has continued efforts to sustain the political movement established by Akua Donkor.

The unveiling of the new office comes as the party looks towards the 2028 general elections, with Roman Fada declaring his intention to lead the GFP into the next presidential contest.
