Ghanaian rapper Kweku Flick has revealed how Sarkodie’s ‘Messiah’ became a defining moment in his career, helping him regain his footing in music at a time when he was contemplating quitting following the death of his father.

The rapper disclosed that his father’s passing in August 2024 left him at a difficult point in his life, prompting him to reconsider his musical ambitions. However, an unexpected opportunity to feature on Sarkodie’s song a few months later gave him a reason to keep going.

Speaking in an interview on 3Music, Kweku Flick acknowledged Sarkodie’s contribution to his career, describing the opportunity as life-changing and expressing uncertainty about whether the award-winning rapper fully understands its impact.

“I give a big shout-out to Sarkodie. The platform he gave me did a lot, and I am not even sure he knows what he has done for me,” he stated.

Kweku Flick explained that after losing his father in August 2024, he reached a point where he needed reassurance about his future in music. He said he prayed for a sign from God to help him determine whether he should continue pursuing his musical career.

That moment of uncertainty came to an end in November 2024 when Sarkodie sent him a message containing a song titled ‘Messiah’. He saw the invitation as the answer to his prayer and an indication that he should not abandon music.

“I lost my dad in August 2024. After everything that happened, I went on my knees and prayed to God that if He really wanted me to do music, He should show me a sign. Then, in November, I received a message with a song titled Messiah from Sarkodie,” said Flick.

The rapper further disclosed that the success of the collaboration had a significant influence on his decision to remain active in the music industry. He suggested that without the opportunity, he would probably have shifted his attention entirely to his mineral water business.

“I feel like that particular song has changed a lot because if it hadn’t been that song, I wouldn’t be here today. I would have been focusing on my mineral water,” he averred.

Aside from the opportunity itself, Kweku Flick also recalled how he developed the chorus that became part of the song. He said the inspiration came while he was listening to Sarkodie’s verses in a car, where the idea and lyrics came to him.

According to him, Sarkodie had already recorded the first and second verses, but the song did not have a chorus. He therefore had to create a hook that would complement the existing verses and fit the direction of the record.

“Immediately I listened to the song, I told myself that this is my type. I was driving in a car and I was playing it. At that moment, I got the idea and the lyrics. The song had his verse; the first and second verse but no chorus, so I had to do something that will suit the verse,” Kweku Flick further stated.
