Tension around Ghana’s power challenges has found its way into the entertainment space, with comedian Derick Kobina Bonney stepping in to counter actor Prince David Osei over remarks directed at President John Dramani Mahama.
The dispute traces back to a post Osei made on X on April 27, 2026, where he tied Mahama’s periods in office to recurring dumsor and rising electricity costs. His comments reignited a familiar political argument about responsibility for the outages.
DKB has pushed back strongly, arguing that the criticism is shaped more by partisan interests than by a balanced reading of events. He contends that focusing solely on Mahama overlooks how the power situation shifted across successive governments.
According to the comedian, the crisis had been stabilised before Mahama left office during his earlier administration. He insists the return of load-shedding came afterward, without a clear timetable to resolve it.
“Yes, he has seen an opportunistic chance to speak. JM solved dumsor before leaving power. Your NPP sent us back to dumsor, without a timetable,” the comedian fired back on X.

He also took issue with the selective commentary, questioning why Osei did not speak up during a period he believes saw consistent electricity supply.
“When JM kept the light on for one year straight, couldn’t you pass a comment? Or you had a sore throat?” he asked.
DKB further downplayed the current outages, attributing them to technical adjustments rather than political shortcomings.
“It’s a system upgrade, Masa.”
