Ghanaian media personality and podcaster DJ Slim has offered more insight into Stonebwoy’s side of his recent disagreement with rapper Sarkodie, explaining what appears to be the main issue between the two music heavyweights.
The discussion comes after Sarkodie spoke about the growing toxicity within Ghana’s music industry and called for greater unity and respect among artistes. However, according to DJ Slim, Stonebwoy does not necessarily disagree with the call for peace but takes issue with how Sarkodie approaches relationships and certain personalities within the industry.
Speaking on his Street Is Watching podcast, DJ Slim explained that Stonebwoy’s disagreement was specifically with Sarkodie’s comments concerning how artistes treat one another.
“The only part there was a problem was when he was addressing artistes; that is where Stonebwoy says, ‘I do not agree with you on that part,’” DJ Slim said.
Per information sighted by Zionfelix Entertainment News, DJ Slim further explained that Stonebwoy questioned Sarkodie’s position because of his relationship with personalities such as Shatta Wale.
According to him, Stonebwoy believes Sarkodie sometimes appears to understand or defend certain controversial behaviour while privately maintaining relationships with the people involved.
DJ Slim said Stonebwoy’s position is that artistes do not necessarily have to become best friends, but there should be mutual respect and a willingness to work together.
He also referenced M.anifest’s view that while achieving complete unity among Ghanaian artistes may be difficult, cooperation remains necessary for the growth of the music industry.
The conversation, however, became more direct when DJ Slim relayed Stonebwoy’s criticism of Sarkodie for allegedly enabling people who have built their platforms by attacking other artistes and brands.
“If you have grown a conscience overnight, I think you should have started from your friend because there’s no one in this country who is more abusive to his colleagues in the industry than him,” he said.
DJ Slim added that Stonebwoy believes Sarkodie must also accept responsibility for the people he supports if he genuinely wants to see an end to toxicity.
“Then he said, ‘You are an enabler; there are people around you who have also grown their fan bases by shitting on other brands, and you gave them shout-outs. You know them, so you’re an enabler. Once you accept that, I am ok,’” DJ Slim added.
The comments have added another layer to the ongoing conversation involving Sarkodie and Stonebwoy, two of Ghana’s most influential artistes.
