Gospel musician Florence has unveiled a new identity following the traditional dissolution of her marriage to Bishop Daniel Obinim, dropping his surname from her stage name after more than two decades of marriage.
The musician, who built her career under the name Florence Obinim, is now introducing herself professionally as Queen Florence the Lioness.
She confirmed the change in a video shared online by Tina News, making it clear that the new name will now be used for her music career.
“Now my music name is Queen Florence the Lioness,” she said.
The rebranding comes after the traditional dissolution of her marriage to Bishop Obinim, the founder and leader of the International God’s Way Church, who had publicly asked Florence to stop using his family name.

The development became a subject of public discussion in September 2026 after traditional rites associated with the dissolution of the marriage were reportedly performed, including the return of the “Tiri Nsa”.
Bishop Obinim subsequently addressed the issue publicly, stating that Florence should no longer use the surname Obinim after he had accepted the drink presented to signify the end of their marriage.
The matter took another turn earlier in September when an audio recording of the preacher surfaced online. In the recording, Bishop Obinim spoke extensively about the breakdown of the marriage and specifically addressed Florence’s continued use of his surname.
He accused his former wife of embarrassing him and insisted that the dissolution of the marriage meant she should remove “Obinim” from her name.
“You have embarrassed me, and I emphasise that when I die, don’t come to my funeral as a widow. Since I have accepted the drink, remove the name Obinim from your name,” he ordered.
