Ghanaian artiste Lasmid wants the people behind some of the country’s biggest musical moments to receive greater recognition for the role they play in shaping the music scene.

The “Friday Night” hitmaker has drawn attention to the influence of Ghanaian DJs, arguing that their work has helped artists gain visibility, pushed songs to wider audiences and connected music with listeners.

In a post on X, Lasmid reflected on his own experiences growing up with DJs and said their contribution to his journey as an artiste should not be overlooked.

“Ghanaian DJs deserve their flowers. I grew up listening to DJs who made artists feel bigger, made songs travel further and gave people the soundtrack to their lives. A lot of what I am today was shaped by those moments. Sometimes I feel we’ve become too comfortable taking that contribution for granted. I’m not calling anyone out,” he wrote.

He believes the conversation around Ghana’s music industry should go beyond artistes and producers to also acknowledge the professionals who help take music to the public.

Lasmid is therefore advocating for a broader discussion on the value of DJs and the recognition they receive for their work.

“I just think it’s time we had a real conversation about how much DJs mean to Ghanaian music and how much more they deserve,” he wrote.
