Popular Kumawood actor and political activist Sylvester Agyapong, widely known as Sly, appears determined to take his political ambitions to another level.

The talented actor has officially filed his nomination forms to contest the Ashanti Regional Deputy Organiser position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The actor’s latest move comes months after he secured an appointment as Deputy Political Coordinator at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) in August 2025, following the NDC’s victory in the 2024 general elections.

Before the 2024 elections, the actor was also among the Kumawood personalities who campaigned for Mahama and the NDC through the Kumawood Stars for Mahama group.

Now, the actor appears ready to build on that political experience as he seeks to become the NDC’s next Ashanti Regional Deputy Organiser.

His nomination filing at the party’s regional secretariat in Kumasi attracted several personalities from the creative industry, who turned up to demonstrate their support for his bid.

Among those present were celebrated Kumawood actors Michael Afranie, Taylor, Zack GH and Nana Siaw, alongside other entertainment practitioners.

Speaking to the media after successfully submitting his nomination forms, Sly expressed confidence in his ability to mobilise grassroots supporters and attract floating and undecided voters to the NDC.

He pointed to his experience as a former Constituency Communications Officer during the crucial 2024 general elections, insisting that his practical involvement in party activities and popularity among the public put him in a strong position to help expand the party’s electoral fortunes in the Ashanti Region.

“My years of dedication at the base of the party and our proven contributions during the 2024 campaign speak for themselves. The Ashanti Region remains the ultimate political battleground. With me as Deputy Regional Organiser, the NDC is not only going to retain national power, but we will drastically break historical barriers, win additional parliamentary seats, and substantially grow our presidential vote tallies,” Sly stated.

Outlining his vision for the position, the actor-turned-politician pledged to transform the party’s approach to youth and creative industry mobilisation while strengthening grassroots structures and improving coordination among branch executives.

He further promised to promote unity and reconciliation within the party, explaining that he intends to serve as a bridge between different factions and help build a strong, united regional executive committee.

The aspiring regional executive also called on his fellow contestants to ensure that the internal elections remain peaceful, urging them to avoid insults, personal attacks and character assassination.

“This is an internal contest among brothers and sisters under the same umbrella. We must conduct our campaigns devoid of insults, character assassination, and bitterness. Our common adversary is our political opponent, and our ultimate priority must be the strength and unity of the NDC,” he stressed.
