The prestigious Upper West Music Awards hosted by the ever impressive Nelgee and the incredible Heidi Effrim Essandoh came off at the First and Last Gardens in Wa on January 5, 2024, with a stunning ceremony.
Honoring exceptional talents and contributions in Northern Ghana, particularly the Upper West region, the event crowned Ojay Berima with the invaluable title of “Artiste of the Year.”

In a spectacular night celebrating the finest in upper west music and beyond, the “dumsor” crooner who was shaved shakora by his colleagues at UMA2023 came out triumphant as the ultimate Artist Of The Year for the first time at the 2024 edition of the Upper West Music Awards.
Ojay Music beat stiff competition to triumph over Sambwoy Gh, the man with a hatrick of Rapper Of the Year crowns Harmless Vid, the enigmatic Dancehall General Kawute as well as the monstrous Snypa Thugx.
The recognition as Artiste Of The Year at the Upper west Music Awards comes with a substantial GHc 5,000 cash prize, three free master tracks, a music video for one of the tracks, and three months of online promotion by a renowned promoter.
The Artiste of the year accolade also adds to Ojay’s growing awards catalog. This achievement not only honors his dedication and creativity in the music scene but also underscores his impactful vibrant presence in this melody, rhythm and lyrical space.
Among the noteworthy winners were Samson Bannar, recognized as the “Traditional Act of the Year,” and Dapilaa Eliza, securing the title of “Gospel Artiste of the Year.” Rising star Waxzy Twist claimed the “New Artist of the Year” award, while Melody Wan earned accolades as the “Vocalist of the Year.”
