Renowned Ghanaian gospel musician Ophelia Nyantakyi is now called, Ophelia Abena Serwaa, zionfelix.net can confirm.
Celebrating 20 years in music on Saturday, November 4 in Accra, the gospel artiste cum fashion designer explained to Zionfelix.net why she changed her name. According to her, “Abena Serwaa is not a new name so Ghanaians should not surprised.” She continued that “I feel like using the name now. I just took the Nyantakyi out so nothing has changed”.
Ophelia believes the change of name from Ophelia Nyantakyi to Ophelia Abena Serwaa will not negatively affect her brand because her God will make wonders.
“God is still alive so nothing bad will happen to me after change of name. God who make young artistes bigger than they thought will also do same for me after the change of name.” she disclosed.
When Zionfelix.net asked if rumour that she has divorced gospel musician Collins Nyantakyi and that pushed her to omit the ex-husband’s name, she confirmed the split but added that it did not influence the change of name.
“I’ve divorced my former husband, Collins, but I’ve no problem with him. We’ve kids so there is no way I should have issues with him. We talk often so we are not fighting even though we are not together anymore. I just decided to use my name now.” Ophelia Abena Serwaa told Zionfelix.net.
P&P in 2010 reported the split between the then Ophelia Nyantakyi and husband Collins Nyatankyi but both refused to comment on the issue when the newspaper contacted them. The paper published that “Information reaching the news desk of P&P indicates that the Ghanaian gospel music scene has been hit by another divorce case. This time, the unexpected split is between two renowned gospel artistes Collins and Ophelia Nyantakyi.
The couple whose marriage until recently was the envy of other married partners and family members reportedly decided go their separate ways after a series misunderstandings and accusations.
Although both Ophelia and Collins are tight-lipped on the alleged break-up, P&P can confirm that the pretty songtress cum fashion designer left her marital home almost a year ago and all attempts to get her to rescind that decision and return home has proved futile.
It has also emerged that although Ophelia, has all long responded to the name Mrs. Nyantakyi, she was never taken to the altar (wedded) by Collins, though he reportedly performed the customary marriage rites several years ago.
Indeed, she was reportedly referred to as Ophelia Nyantakyi by her fans and admirers due to the fact that she usually performed together with Collins Nyantakyi during musical shows even before they came together as husband and wife. Interestingly, whilst Ophelia admits there are a few challenges with their marriage, Collins was elusive when P&P reached him for his comment. He insisted that he had no problem with his wife.”
The 20 years in gospel music anniversary concert was attended by renowned personalities like Opiesie Esther, Ceccy Twum, Stacy Amoateng, Francis Amo, Joyce Blessing, Mr. Beautiful, Mr. Annane Frimpong of Frimprince Music Production, John Mensah Sarpong, Akumaa Mama Zimbi, Kalsoume Sinare, Grace Ashy and many others.
