Efia Odo has questioned the commitment of Ghana’s two leading political parties to the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, accusing both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of failing to protect the country’s water bodies.
The socialite expressed frustration over the continued destruction caused by illegal mining, saying the scale of the damage makes it difficult to believe that the country’s political leaders are unaware of the problem.
She shared her concerns in a post on X, where she argued that both major political parties have had enough time and opportunity to tackle galamsey but have failed to deliver meaningful results.
“There’s no way our leaders are blind to the damage galamsey is doing to our water bodies. In my view, both the NDC and NPP have failed us for years,” she wrote.

Efia Odo also took issue with the recurring promises made by politicians during election campaigns, particularly pledges to clamp down on illegal mining and protect Ghana’s natural resources.
According to her, the determination displayed during campaigns often appears to weaken once political parties win power, leaving the country to continue dealing with the consequences of galamsey.
“They campaign on promises to fight galamsey, yet once in power, the urgency disappears. If they can see the destruction, why does their response never match the scale of the crisis?” Efia asked.
