One of the most exciting heads on urban radio, Joel Orleans is rumoured to be parting ways with Y 107.9 FM —the Accra-based station which he has called home for the past 8 years.
Orleans, who joined the station from the now-defunct Choice FM, is reported to be leaving to pursue other interests. He will host his last show on Friday, September 28, zionfelix.net is told.
Joel comperes ‘The Dryve’, YFM Ghana’s flagship programme. He is also signed to The Black Star Line —a New York-based imprint by famed producer, Coptic.
Whilst at YFM, Joel hosted the Y Campus Express, as well as the Mid Morning Radio Show, before taking over “The Dryve.”
A talented broadcaster, Joel Orleans has garnered international notice, including by American hip-hop radio station, Hot 97, as well as the BBC.
He’s interviewed international celebrities such as Fabolous(USA), T-pain (USA), Gramps Morgan (Jamaica), Red Cafe (USA), Haile Of Wstrn (UK), Davido (Nigeria) Diamond Platinumz (Tanzania), AkA (SA), Khuli Chana (SA) among others.
Station sources are tight-lipped on the departure of the “Radio Man”, as he is affectionately called. They are yet to name a replacement.
Let’s wait till after Friday if Joel will indeed say goodbye to YFM as we have been told or will change plans to continue with the Accra Mall-located station. Efforts to reach him to react to the hearsay has proven futile.
