Fancy Gadam has finally revealed the whopping amount he paid Sarkodie to perform at his historic 2017 concert at the Tamale Sports Stadium.
According to Fancy Gadam, he paid Sarkodie a staggering GH¢120,000 to appear at the concert, an amount he said opened his eyes to the real value of top artistes in the Ghanaian music industry.
Fancy Gadam made the disclosure while recounting his experience with the award-winning rapper on George Quaye’s show on Joy Prime.
“My show with Sarkodie at Tamale Sports Stadium, we paid him GH¢120,000, and that day I realised my value. I never knew it,” Fancy Gadam revealed.
The experience, according to Fancy Gadam, subsequently influenced how he valued his own performances, as he decided to review his performance fee upwards.
After this revelation, Fancy Gadam interestingly disclosed that the GH¢120,000 payment was separate from Sarkodie’s involvement in Fancy Gadam’s hit song ‘Total Cheat’.
Fancy Gadam explained that he did not personally negotiate the ‘Total Cheat’ collaboration with Sarkodie. Instead, his former manager, Alhaji Nero, handled the arrangement.
According to Fancy Gadam, Alhaji Nero and Sarkodie had a very close relationship, with the two being friends and neighbours who had known each other for a long time.
Because of that relationship, Fancy Gadam said he initially believed Sarkodie had contributed to ‘Total Cheat’ for free.
He explained that he was not involved in the business side of the collaboration and only became aware of the financial arrangements later, when preparations for the music video began.
The ‘Total Cheat’ collaboration would eventually become a major turning point in his career.
