Music producer Kwasi Ernest has rubbished plans by government to institute insurance policies for people in the creative arts industry.
The initiative by the Ministry for Tourism, Arts and Culture to insure players in the Creative Arts sector to enable them to have comfortably old age has been met with mixed reactions from diverse angles.
According to the ministry, the move had become necessary in the light of the sorry state of some veterans in the creative industry, a number of who have had to publicly beg for support. The proposed insurance scheme will cater for health, pension packages, injuries on set etc of creative arts players. Mr. Kwasi Ernest is one who believes this move isn’t a laudable one.
In an interview with Zeal on Homebase TV, he expressed his disbelief in the said insurance scheme and lamented the poor remuneration system in the industry should rather be looked at.
He said, “I personally don’t believe in anybody doing insurance for old musicians. If i have a good job, ill cater for myself and my family without anyone’s help. No other profession in the country is treated this way so why are things different with the creative arts?”
He stressed the point that people in the industry are totally fed up with deceits from successive governments.
