Sista Afia asserts that financial dependence has never been part of her approach to relationships. According to her, she has never asked a man for money while in a relationship.
During an interview with MC Portfolio on Kumasi-based Angel FM, the “Weather” singer opened up about why she chooses to stand on her own financially, stressing that she earns her own income and does not believe in depending on a partner for survival.
“I’ve never asked any man for any amount of money before. When I’m dating a man, I don’t ask them for MoMo because I make my own money, and I know I will always make my own money. It doesn’t matter if the man is rich; it will be worrying if I go with that mentality. I make my own money. If you want to buy for me, I will appreciate it, but don’t expect me to ask you for it,” she noted.
According to her, some men become uncomfortable around independent women because they feel they cannot easily control them. She argued that a woman’s ability to provide for herself should not be viewed as a threat in a relationship.

“Most Ghanaian men like to take care of a woman they can control. The IQ is low. If you get a hardworking woman who makes her own money, respects and loves you, why would you have that mentality that the woman will be competing with you?” she said.
Touching on her love life, Sista Afia explained that she does not limit herself to any particular type of man and is open to dating even corporate professionals often described as “9-5ers.”
She, however, admitted that finding someone who understands her beyond the fame has been difficult. While she is currently not chasing a relationship, the singer confessed she is someone who loves deeply and has previously been with men who struggled to believe that a celebrity woman could be financially independent and still not ask them for money.
