The mother of slain Ghanaian teenager Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong has arrived in New York with one overriding concern: securing justice for her son, who was shot dead on his way to school.

Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi travelled from Ghana to the United States following the October 29 tragedy and is now preparing to give her 15-year-old son a final farewell.

Addressing the circumstances surrounding his death, she said she wanted the individuals responsible for the shooting to be found and made to face the law.

Her appeal was brief but deeply emotional. Speaking after arriving in New York ahead of the funeral, she said, “I want justice for my son, that is all.”

Madam Gyamfi also shared an insight into her son’s ambitions, revealing that he had hoped to pursue a career in medicine and become a doctor. His death, she said, had robbed him of the opportunity to fulfil those aspirations.

Javits was shot on Thursday, October 29, 2026, while heading to DreamYard Preparatory School in the Claremont neighbourhood of the Bronx. The incident has caused considerable concern among Ghanaian residents in New York, with many seeking answers about the circumstances that led to his killing.

The teenager, who was in Grade 10, was walking near Crotona Park shortly before 9:30 a.m. when he encountered the attackers.

Details from the New York Police Department indicate that he suffered a gunshot injury and was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital. However, doctors could not save his life, and he was pronounced dead at the facility.

Preliminary police accounts suggest that three suspects wearing hooded clothing and surgical masks were present in the vicinity before Javits arrived.

Investigators believe the teenager attempted to run away when the individuals approached him. The suspects reportedly pursued him before shooting him.

In another detail emerging from the investigation, the attackers are said to have returned to retrieve the spent shell casings from the scene before making their escape through a nearby subway station.

Police are examining the movements of the suspects and pursuing other investigative leads to establish their identities and whereabouts. Authorities are yet to announce any arrests in connection with the killing.

Meanwhile, Javits’ mother is left preparing to bury her son while seeking answers and accountability over a tragedy that has brought immense pain to her family.
