Mzgee, the host of UTV’s United Showbiz, has firmly denied allegations that the show intentionally engages in political discussions to serve the interests of any political party.

She stressed that United Showbiz primarily focuses on issues concerning the entertainment industry, not politics.

MzGee made these clarifications upon returning to the show’s set after a disruptive incident.

A group of young men associated with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) had stormed the UTV studios during a live telecast of United Showbiz.

This incident, which has raised concerns about press freedom, was widely condemned by various parties, including the National Media Commission, the Ministry of Information, and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mzgee emphasized that celebrities, like all Ghanaian citizens, have the right to express their views on matters of national importance.

She stated, “We don’t do politics, but when a trending event happens, we also have a right to talk about it since creatives also pay tax, buy fuel, and equally seek development.”
