Samini of Ghana has spoken out about the merging of components in Azonto, which is now known as Amapiano.

According to the multi-award-winning musician, Amapiano is a South African music style that is quite similar to Azonto, a music style from Ghana.

“We had Azonto, it was a wave and people were doing it across different countries as well, so it’s now past and gone,” he remarked while speaking on Location FM in Cape Coast.

“Today if you do Azonto and you add one or two things to it somebody will say it’s Amapiano but Amapiano is something which is already South African.

“Amapiano is always going to be South African so after everybody tried with Azonto at the end it’s Ghana that you will connect it to.  So Amapiano will be connected to South Africa but going forward, Ghana music remains Ghana music,” he disclosed on the show.
