Charter House, the organizers of the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards released the list of nominees for the 2023 edition of the event on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

Like always, the release of the nominee’s list has generated a lot of talk on social media, with many netizens either expressing their satisfaction with the list or dissatisfaction because their favorite was not nominated.

Amid the numerous reactions, one category that is currently causing a lot of stir is the ‘Best New Artiste’.

Some netizens cannot fathom why gospel musician, Ewura Abena, has been nominated in the aforementioned category in 2023 when she released one of the most popular songs in the gospel music space back in 2009.

Ewura Abena got a nomination as the best new act with her recent single titled ‘This Far’, however, as far back as 2009, her single ‘Agye Me Nkwa’ which featured Nacy, one of the songs that got a lot of airplay in Ghana.

Even though many people are surprised about her nomination, some people are of the view that she got into this particular group because this might be the very first time she has submitted her works to the VGMA.
