Abeiku Santana, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, says no salary, not even $100,000 a month, would convince him to leave Ghana for a life in the United States or the United Kingdom.
Santana made the remarks while highlighting what he considers the untapped opportunities available in Ghana and the tendency of many Ghanaians to overlook them.
In a video shared on X, the broadcaster and tourism executive said he would still prefer Ghana even if he were offered a lucrative monthly income to relocate abroad.
“If you gave me a $100,000 monthly salary to live in America or to live in the UK, I’ll choose Ghana. Ask me why.
“There are more opportunities in Ghana than in America. We see the opportunity, but we are not able to seize the opportunity,” he said.
According to Santana, one of the country’s biggest challenges is not necessarily the absence of opportunities, but the failure of many Ghanaians to recognise and turn those opportunities into sustainable livelihoods.

He pointed to the activities of foreigners and expatriates as an example, arguing that they often identify gaps in the Ghanaian economy that locals complain about and find ways to benefit from them.
Santana said Ghanaians frequently focus on the difficulties surrounding an opportunity instead of considering how those challenges could be transformed into businesses or sources of income.
“Then foreigners or expatriates come; they see it, and they seize it. We see the opportunity, but we lament. We always complain.
“Anything that people are complaining about is an opportunity. Opportunity is work. Opportunity is problems. But we don’t like problems,” he further stated.
