Popular Ghanaian broadcaster Blessed Godsbrain Smart, widely known as Captain Smart, has stunned his numerous followers after announcing his resignation from Media General live on air.

The outspoken media personality made the unexpected announcement on his popular “Onua Maakye” programme on Friday, August 7, 2026, bringing his five-year journey with Media General to an end.

Captain Smart, who joined Media General on June 1, 2021, revealed that he had officially submitted his resignation and was ready to move on to what he described as other important endeavours.

During the show, the broadcaster called on the person who had been responsible for putting the microphone on him to come and take it off, signalling the end of his time with the station.

“I want to withdraw. I have officially resigned. This isn’t going to be the case where I will come back again. The bosses here may not agree, but I have done my part. I want the man who mic’d me to come and take off my microphone on air,” he said.

Captain Smart subsequently expressed gratitude to everyone who had supported and listened to him throughout his time at Media General.

“I came to Media General on June 1, 2021, but today ends my stay here. Thanks to everyone who listened to me,” he stated.

The broadcaster hinted that his political ambitions were the reason for his resignation and emphasis that his intention to contest the Gomoa West parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is a call he cannot refuse.
