Some unconfirmed reports seek to suggest that President Akuffo Addo led government is currently planning to support the 20th edition of the prestigious Vodafone Ghana Music Awards which is slated for May 18 at the Accra International Conference Centre with an amount of GH 100, 000 cedis.

Before this money even hit the account of Charter House, organizers of the awards, if it has not been wired already, renowned journalist, blogger, and communication expert, Kwame Gyan, is charging them to reject that amount of money.

According to Kwame Gyan, the said amount of money they plan to give Charter House is an affront to the organization bearing in mind the huge amount of money needed to celebrate Ghana’s music on the VGMA night.

He also questions how the government could cough up about GH 300,000 cedis to support the recent Chalewote Street Festival, which is relatively a smaller event in his view and give the VGMA’s, which he considers a bigger event just GH 100,00 cedis.

He further argued that the amount is an insult because a single top musical act expected to perform on the night of the VGMA may take the whole GH 100, 000 cedis, which is being reported as the amount of money the government is willing to give Charter House as his fee.

“Chalewote Street Festival – 300K Cedis
Ghana Music Awards – 100K cedis

I understand that’s the support the Government of the Republic of Ghana has given or is about to give to support some initiatives in the arts sector.

Remember the Government of the Republic of Ghana is said to have given or spent 700K DOLLARS on AFRIMA….a Nigerian originated event packaged as an African one.

Now, I want to understand the logic in the Ghana amounts. Are we saying Chalewote is bigger than the GMAs? Are we saying we don’t realise support of 100K is as insulting as presenting a kente African print fabric to an Ashanti chief instead of a hand woven original Kente.

And guess what, if Charterhouse accepts the 100K, government will start boasting all over this town that they are supporting the GMAs.

I beg, if we managed to justify 700,000 USD for AFRIMA, it should be easy to justify a reasonable amount for the GMA instead of that 100K chicken change nu. What too is that one.

George Quaye if you people accept this ago shock oooo!”
