Ghanaian singer Gyakie has finally addressed the controversy surrounding her decision not to perform at the 2026 KNUST SRC Week celebration after she was billed as one of the headline acts for the much-anticipated event.
The “Something” hitmaker had been announced as one of the artistes set to entertain students during the KNUST SRC Week celebration on Saturday, July 25, 2026. However, just hours before the show, Gyakie announced that she would no longer be appearing, leaving many students disappointed and sparking widespread speculation on social media.
Following the incident, several rumours emerged online, with some people alleging that her withdrawal was due to payment-related issues, while others linked it to a previous performance at KNUST where she was reportedly booed by sections of the audience.
Amid the mixed reports, Gyakie finally broke her silence with a Facebook post, addressing the issue without revealing the exact reason behind her decision to pull out of the event.
According to the award-winning singer, artistes deserve to be treated with respect and should not be expected to perform under conditions that do not meet the required standards. She stressed that proper procedures must always be followed to enable musicians to give their best performances.
“I’m committed to giving my fans my best and always leave them with a memorable experience. I don’t care if anyone booed at me then or now, but due process must be followed and the right thing must be done to ensure that artistes give out their best.
