The family dispute surrounding the burial of the late Apostle Professor Kwadwo Safo Kantanka continues to deepen as his son, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, popularly known as Kantanka Junior, has once again rejected reports that his father’s funeral will take place on July 30, 2026.
Speaking during a press conference, Akofena insisted that the burial date being circulated by his sister, former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, should be disregarded.
According to him, with the overwhelming support he currently enjoys from the late Apostle’s extended family and the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission Church Council, there is no way his father will be buried on the date announced by Adwoa Safo.
The latest development comes days after the Kristo Asafo Mission officially declared the previously announced July 30 burial date null and void, explaining that no agreement had been reached on the funeral arrangements.
Akofena, who has been presented as the person officially in charge of his late father’s body and burial arrangements following the reading of the Apostle’s will, maintained that a new funeral date would be announced only after the necessary processes had been completed.
He further addressed allegations that Adwoa Safo had spent GH¢3.7 million on preparations towards their father’s funeral.
Describing the claims as funny, Akofena said his family would only consider discussing reimbursement if Adwoa Safo appears before them with credible evidence to prove the amount she claims to have spent.
He stressed that until such proof is presented, there is no basis for any payment or compensation.
The family disagreement has intensified in recent weeks following claims that key provisions in the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka’s will, particularly those concerning custody of his remains and burial arrangements, have not been fully adhered to.
At an earlier press conference on Monday, July 27, 2026, members of the Kristo Asafo Mission Council of Elders explained that every effort to resolve the impasse through respected personalities had failed, forcing the Mission to cancel the previously announced burial date.
Akofena has also indicated that legal action has been initiated to ensure that his late father’s final wishes, as outlined in the will, are respected.
With no new burial date announced, the Kristo Asafo Mission has appealed to the public to ignore all unofficial funeral announcements and wait for an official communication from the family.
