Popular radio presenter Kwamena Idan has instructed Big Event Ghana, the organisers of the annual Radio and Television (RTP) Awards to exclude his name in the six nominees of the Best Radio Gospel show host of the year category for the 2018 edition of the event.
The Adom Live Worship host in an interview with Zionfelix on Radio Univers bemoaned the organisers for not officially informing him about his nomination. According to him, the award organisers failed to officially inform him about his nomination for this year’s event which he believes is wrong. Again, Kwamena Idan who stated without mincing words that he has pulled out of the awards scheme for this year added that he was nominated without his consent.
To him, organisers of the award should have sought for his permission before adding him to the nominees for this year’s awards because he has worked for decades to build the brand. On why he is not interested in this year’s event, Kwamena Idan told Zionfelix on the Brunch2Lunch entertainment show that his doctrines do not allow him to associate himself to any brand affiliated to an alcoholic beverage.
He further added that by allowing himself to be nominated for the RTP Awards, he will indirectly endorse or advertise Adonko Bitters, a mistake he never wants to commit in his life.
“From where I stand, my religious ethics will not allow me to be part of Adonko RTP Awards. I want to make it open that I’m not interested in Adonko RTP Awards. The organisers must respect my brand and my intergrity. You cannot just nominate me and make money off it” Kwame said on Radio Univers.
When Zionfelix, the show host questioned Mr. Idan if he has officially informed the awards organisers about the fact that he is not interested in the event, he answered no since they did not formally write to him when he was not nominated.
Kwamena Idan quickly added that he is not interested in this year’s awards because of the headline sponsor, Adonko Bitters but if it changes in future, then he will have no problem with a nomination.
Kwamena Idan was nominated for the Radio Gospel Show host of the year category with O.B Nartey of Vision 1 FM, Frank Kwabena Owusu (Franky5) of Hitz FM, Kojo Oppong Adjei of Sunny FM, Jeshurun Okyere of LIve FM and Agyemang Boateng of Kasapa FM.
2018 Adonko RTP Awards comes off on October 6 at the Accra International Conference Center.
