In 2017, one of the movies produced here in Ghana that set a record at the cinemas is the Kofi Asamoah-directed movie, John and John.
The movie which first premiered on Easter Saturday last year became the talk of the town after it was later reported that the film was a remake of South African movie Skeem released on October 9, 2011. Ghanaians did not spare Kofas and his production house, Kofas Media for adapting the movie ditto to ditto for Ghanaians to watch. A year after the production of John and John movie which features top African actors like Pete Edochie, LilWin, Nana Ama McBrown, James Gardiner, John Dumelo, Yaw Dabo and many others, Kalybos, one of the lead charactors in the film has disclosed why his former boss, Kofi Asamoah took the initiative to copy Skeem.
According to the actor real Richard Kwaku Asante, the production house wanted to be smart but they failed at the end. The comic actor speaking on Celebrity Ride With Zionfelix show revealed that Kofi Asamoah was outsmarted at the end so the only option he had was to accept his fault and apologise to the public and Mr. Asamoah did exactly that.
Having said that, Kalybos defended the pan to Adapt the South African movie for ‘John an John’. He posited that the cast and crew for the Kofas Media and Miracle Wave International collaborated movie “nailed the movie”. To him, he had no problem with the adaptation because it occurs everywhere on this planet.
The Boys Kasa actor later stated the president of the Republic of Ghana even plagiarises speech so the adaptation of John and John was no big deal.
