Media personality MC Yaa Yeboah has called for the sack or resignation of Black Star Experience Head Coordinator Rex Omar following his recent comments about the initiative and the economic difficulties facing Ghanaians.
Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz programme on Saturday, September 26, 2026, MC Yaa Yeboah argued that Rex Omar should be sacked or willingly step aside because it would help preserve what is left of his image and dignity.
Her comments follows remarks by Rex Omar in which he appealed to Ghanaians to be patient with the Black Star Experience, explaining that the current economic situation was affecting the entertainment industry.
Rex Omar had questioned why someone who was struggling to afford food would use their limited resources to attend a concert or watch a movie.
According to him, the economic challenges facing the country were affecting several sectors, including entertainment, tourism and pharmaceuticals, and he urged the public to be patient with the Black Star Experience as preparations continued for the initiative to fully take off.
However, MC Yaa Yeboah took issue with the explanation and questioned whether economic difficulties should be used as the main justification for the apparent lack of activities associated with the Black Star Experience.
She described Rex Omar’s position as problematic and maintained that his resignation would help protect his reputation rather than further expose him to criticism over the initiative.
MC Yaa Yeboah also found the economic argument ironic, particularly because the government’s economic management under President John Dramani Mahama and Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson has been presented by government officials as showing improvement in key economic indicators.
For her, therefore, the explanation that Ghanaians cannot afford entertainment because they are struggling financially does not sufficiently account for the opportunities available to the Black Star Experience to engage the creative industry and organise partnerships.
She cited programmes and events that the secretariat could have partnered with, including Chef Abbey’s upcoming culinary event, among other activities, as examples of opportunities she believes could have been explored.
According to MC Yaa Yeboah, the failure to take advantage of such opportunities further raises questions about the effectiveness of the leadership of the Black Star Experience and strengthens her argument that Rex Omar should make way for a different approach.
