Ghanaian gospel singer Ohemaa Mercy has explained the biblical symbolism behind the striking outfit she wore during the 13th edition of the Tehillah Experience, saying her appearance was designed to represent a spiritual assignment rather than a fashion choice.
The singer addressed the discussions surrounding her ceremonial attire in a Facebook post on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, days after this year’s Tehillah Experience, which was held at The Oil Dome of Royalhouse Chapel under the theme, “The Altar of Fire.”
According to Ohemaa Mercy’s management, the singer’s entrance was deliberately designed to communicate the message of the programme before she even began leading the congregation in worship.
“At this year’s Tehillah Experience, Ohemaa Mercy did not simply mount the stage she made an altar entry. Long before she lifted the microphone, her attire had already delivered a sermon,” the statement said.
One of the most noticeable features of her outfit was the cap she wore, which her management likened to the priestly mitre worn by the High Priest in the Old Testament.
The statement referenced Exodus 28:36-38, particularly the inscription, “HOLINESS TO THE LORD,” to explain the significance attached to the headpiece.
It said the cap represented priesthood, consecration and submission to divine authority, rather than being included simply to create a distinctive stage appearance.
The explanation also connected the outfit to the theme of the night, pointing to Leviticus 6:13, which speaks of the altar fire being kept burning continually.
“Only the priest was anointed to tend the fire,” the management stated, adding that the mitre was intended to portray Ohemaa Mercy as someone tending to the spiritual altar rather than simply an artiste performing before an audience.
The cross that was carried ahead of her during the procession was also given a central place in the explanation.
According to the statement, the cross represented Christ going ahead of believers and the white linen accompanying it symbolised righteousness and resurrection.
The management cited John 19:17, Galatians 2:20 and Colossians 1:20 to explain the symbolism, stressing that the cross represented sacrifice, death to self and reconciliation with God.
“So the cross had to go first that night to make peace, so that God’s presence could enter the room,” the statement said.
The flowing garment worn by Ohemaa Mercy was similarly presented as a combination of biblical symbols.
White, according to the explanation, represented purity and consecration, while gold pointed to glory, kingship and the identity of believers as a “royal priesthood.”
The crimson elements were associated with sacrifice, with the management linking the colour to Romans 12:1 and the biblical call for believers to present their bodies as living sacrifices.
Her actual entrance into The Oil Dome was also described as part of the spiritual message.
The procession, accompanied by horns and intercessory prayers, was likened to biblical accounts of Esther approaching the royal court and priests entering the Holy Place. The management also referenced 2 Chronicles 5:13-14, where worship and the sound of musical instruments preceded the manifestation of God’s glory in the temple.
The statement therefore framed the entire presentation as a deliberate transition from a conventional concert setting to an atmosphere centred on worship and prayer.
“On that night, the Oil Dome ceased to be an auditorium of fans awaiting a concert. It became a tabernacle,” the management said.
It added that Ohemaa Mercy’s entrance was intended as a reminder of the biblical imagery of God answering by fire when the altar is kept burning.
“In essence, what was worn was not a costume. It was Priestly Regalia for an Altar Assignment,” the statement concluded.
The 2026 edition of Tehillah Experience marked another chapter in Ohemaa Mercy’s long-running gospel worship gathering, with this year’s “Altar of Fire” theme placing strong emphasis on prayer, consecration, sacrifice and the presence of God.
Her management expressed appreciation to those who attended the event and to supporters who continue to contribute to what it described as the Tehillah mandate.
