Kumawood actor Akwasi Boadi, popularly known as Akrobeto, has finally explained why he was conspicuously absent from the burial and funeral ceremony of the late Apostle Professor Emeritus Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
Akrobeto, a known member of the Kristo Asafo Mission and someone who openly admired the late engineer, did not attend the funeral ceremony organised by Sarah Adwoa Safo and other members of the family.
His absence generated questions, particularly because of his close relationship with the late Apostle Kantanka and his association with the Kristo Asafo Mission.
However, Akrobeto has now broken his silence on the matter.
In a video shared on social media on Monday, September 14, 2026, the veteran actor was seen speaking at a ceremony organised by Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, one of the late Apostle Kantanka’s sons.
According to Akrobeto, his decision to stay away from the funeral was not out of disrespect for the late engineer but rather an attempt to honour what Kantanka himself told him while he was alive.
The actor explained that he regularly sought advice from the late Apostle Kantanka and had several conversations with him before his death.
Akrobeto claimed that during one of their interactions, the late engineer told him that Nana Akofena should succeed him and, when the time came, organise his burial and funeral ceremony.
He therefore decided that he would not attend the funeral after learning that it was not organised by Akofena.
“During the burial, a lot of people called to ask why I didn’t attend because I have been vocal about him. Papa told me that when he was no longer alive, Akofena should bury him and also organise the funeral ceremony.
“So, if you didn’t see me during the burial, it was because I respected him and decided to go by his wishes. That was why I didn’t attend the burial,” he said.
Akrobeto’s explanation comes against the backdrop of the controversy that surrounded the funeral arrangements for the celebrated Ghanaian industrialist.
Before the funeral, a disagreement emerged over who had the authority to organise the burial, with different members of the family and Kristo Asafo Mission taking opposing positions.
The dispute eventually reached the court, with an Accra High Court issuing an interim injunction shortly before the scheduled funeral.
Despite the controversy, funeral-related activities proceeded, with Adwoa Safo and her side of the family going ahead with the arrangements.
