The streets of Kumasi were very busy on Thursday, September 14 when several moviemakers took over to protest against the influx of telenovelas in Twi.

The demonstration organised by the Film Producers Association of Ghana, FIPAG had several A-list actors, producers, directors, sound guys, makeup artists and many other film stakeholders joining the fight. The demonstrated started the march from the Cultural Center through Adum to Asafo and ended at Manhyia Palace to cry on the 16th Asantehene, traditional ruler of the Kingdom of Ashanti, Otumfour Osei Tutu II.

Leader of the protestors telling King Solomon their problem disclosed that these telenovelas in Twi are collapsing the local movie industry. Again, they said the absence of the broadcasting bill has given room for several media houses to show more foreign content and less local films, a directive they think is bad.
