Artistes nominated in the Reggae/Dancehall and Reggae/Dancehall songs categories of the 2020 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards have been subjected to criticism.

Following the unveiling of nominees for this year’s edition of the award scheme, a Ghanaian entertainment critic, Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo has labelled the Reggae/Dancehall artistes and songs of the year categories as overly weak.

He argued in an interview with Caleb Nii Boye on Live FM monitored by Zionfelix.net that the songs nominated are not making the awards competitive.

Arnold questioned how many of the songs nominated were most popular as stipulated by the category definition.

“…To say that the category is too light is an understatement, it is overly weak,” he said.

When the host drew his attention that Samini is in that category, he retorted Samini is one of [a kind].

He also questioned how many of the artistes nominated in Reggae/Dancehall artiste of the year came close to be really exciting in the year under review per the category definition.

Arnold Asamoah stressed that it will be easy to target the two reggae/dancehall categories as the weak categories.

J Derobie, Epixode, Jupitar, AK Songstress, Ras Kuuku and Samini were the artistes nominated in the Reggae/Dancehall category of the 2020 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
