Some of Ghana’s biggest names in the local movie industry, popularly called Kumawood gathered to honour the late veteran actor and filmmaker Kwadwo Kwakye Obuobi, popularly known as Sir Rostomo, during his one-week celebration held on Thursday, August 6, 2026.
The ceremony which happened in Kumasi brought together family members, friends, colleagues and well-wishers as the family sat to announce the date the final burial of the actor whose contribution to Ghana’s movie industry spans several years will take place.
Popular Kumawood personalities who attended included veteran actress Mercy Asiedu, Vivian Jill Lawrence, Matilda Asare, Paa George, Kwadwo Nkansah LilWin, Uncle Fii and Taylor, alongside other actors and industry players.
These stars stepped away from their usual entertainment roles to stand with the bereaved family and mourn their colleague.
The atmosphere at the gathering was filled with deep emotions as some of the stars were seen mourning and shedding tears while reflecting on the memories they shared with Sir Rostomo.
Many spoke about his dedication, professionalism and the impact he made on Ghanaian cinema throughout his career.
Sir Rostomo sadly passed away after battling end-stage kidney disease even though he had been receiving treatment and undergoing dialysis while efforts were being made to support him in securing a kidney transplant.
The late actor is survived by his widow and his three children.
