UK-based Ghanaian songwriter Tayst, born John Boachie in real life, is steadily carving a name for himself in the music scene with a blend of cultural storytelling and modern Afro-inspired sound.

He began his musical journey a few years ago and quickly started gaining attention for his style and collaborations. One of his early notable appearances was on a track featuring Ghanaian entertainer Tic Tac and Akuapem Poloo, titled “Sexy Poloo,” which helped introduce him to a wider audience.

Tayst is now back with a new single titled “Tie & Die,” a song that draws inspiration from one of Ghana’s most iconic textile traditions.

“Tie & Die” is built around the cultural meaning of Ghanaian tie and dye fabric, known for its vibrant colours, handcrafted patterns, and deep symbolic identity. In the song, Tayst uses the fabric as a metaphor for love that is intentionally created, carefully shaped, and designed to endure.

The concept is layered. “Tie” reflects unity, bonding, and emotional connection between partners, while “Die” represents sacrifice, emotional struggle, and the realities that come with sustaining love over time. Together, the imagery suggests that relationships, like fabric, are shaped by pressure, effort, and experience, leaving behind lasting patterns that cannot easily be erased.

In the official video, Tayst delivers a heartfelt portrayal of affection and commitment. The storyline follows a relationship built on patience, understanding, and genuine emotional connection, highlighting how love matures through shared experiences.

The visuals are rich with African-inspired colours, textures, and aesthetics, reinforcing the cultural roots behind the concept. Romantic scenes are blended with traditional artistic elements, creating a fusion of modern love storytelling and African identity.

“Tie & Die” ultimately positions Tayst not just as a musician, but as a storyteller who uses culture as a lens to explore human emotion.
