Back-to-back friendly losses have intensified scrutiny on the Black Stars, with gospel musician Sonnie Badu offering his thoughts on the team’s struggles and the road ahead.
Following Ghana’s 2:1 defeat to Germany on March 30, 2026, Badu reflected on Otto Addo’s tenure, saying the former head coach showed occasional promise but fell short of what is required at the senior national team level.
He suggested that Addo’s abilities could be more effective in youth football, where development outweighs the pressure of immediate results.
With the coaching position now open, Badu shifted focus to the urgent need for a replacement capable of stabilising the squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup, questioning who could step in without delay.
He named Kwesi Appiah, who is currently managing Sudan, as the most realistic option, arguing that his familiarity with the team gives him an advantage over any foreign coach who would need time to settle in.

“After last night’s match, I gained some hope in Otto, but I think the senior national team was too big a responsibility for him. Maybe he’d be a better fit for one of the junior national teams. Now, the question is, who can take over in such a short time?
“I think Kwesi Appiah would be the perfect choice. He knows all the players, has tons of experience, and can lead the team effectively. A foreign coach would need time, which we don’t have right now. We can’t risk having them lose and then say they didn’t have enough time with the players. Let’s get Kwesi Appiah, even if it’s just for the World Cup,” he wrote.
The Ghana Football Association officially confirmed Addo’s departure on March 31, 2026, ending his second spell in charge.
Otto Addo was dismissed after Ghana’s friendly defeats to Austria and Germany in the build-up to the World Cup.
