Gospel musician Joe Mettle has announced that he will not participate in the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), revealing that he has decided to take a break from the awards scheme for this year.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Hitz FM, the multiple award-winning artiste disclosed that his decision means he will neither submit his works for nomination nor be involved in any activities related to the awards.

According to Joe Mettle, he has already communicated his position to the organizers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, and the matter has been amicably resolved.

“No, I’ve actually had a conversation with them, so we are fine. I am taking a small break from the TGMA for this year. I won’t be around; that’s why. I saw the date, and I won’t be around,” he said.

When pressed on whether his absence from the awards would extend beyond this year, the gospel star clarified that his decision applies only to the current year and should not be over-interpreted.

“This year, for just this year. We are dealing with this year, so when other years come, we will deal with them when they come. You are in a hurry to go to other years when you haven’t seen the year yet,” he added.

Joe Mettle’s announcement has sparked reactions among fans and industry observers, many of whom consider him a key figure in Ghana’s gospel music scene and a regular presence at the awards.

While his absence will be felt at this year’s TGMA, the artiste’s comments suggest the decision is temporary, leaving the door open for a possible return in future editions of the awards.
