Rapper Kwaw Kese has thrown his support behind the GH¢1 petroleum levy introduced under the current NDC government, calling it a reasonable sacrifice for national progress.

In a video posted to his Instagram page, the outspoken artiste made a clear distinction between this new “Dumsor Levy” and the controversial E-Levy introduced by the previous NPP administration, stating he prefers the former.

“The price of fuel has been reduced from GH¢16 to GH¢12 per liter. Which means he has dashed Ghanaians GH¢4. And if he is now saying that, give GH¢1 out of the GH¢4…I think it makes sense,” Kwaw Kese explained.

He emphasized the need for Ghanaians to set aside political affiliations and focus on solutions that move the country forward.

“I know some people will make politics out of this. But I think it makes sense if we want to build a great nation. I will advise us to put the politics aside and work towards how we can develop the country,” he said.

According to Kwaw Kese, the NDC-led government isn’t overburdening the public, and the GH¢1 levy is a small price to pay if it contributes to long-term improvements.

His comments come in the wake of Parliament’s approval of the Energy Sector Levy (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which imposes a GH¢1 charge per litre on petroleum products. The measure is aimed at addressing Ghana’s lingering energy sector debts and ensuring a consistent electricity supply.
