Ghana’s Parliament has paid glowing tribute to the late highlife icon Charles Kojo Fosu, widely known as Daddy Lumba, following his passing on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra after a short illness.

In a solemn session on the floor of the House, Members of Parliament expressed their deep sorrow and admiration for the musical giant whose influence shaped generations and left an indelible mark on Ghana’s cultural landscape.

Delivering a heartfelt statement, the MP for Manhyia North, Akwasi Konadu, described Daddy Lumba as “one of Ghana’s greatest musical legends, a true maestro and an icon whose influence transcended generations and national borders.”

He praised the legendary musician for his timeless melodies, lyrical richness, and powerful social commentary.

“His works were not just songs,” Mr. Konadu said. “They were experiences—carefully crafted pieces that touched hearts and stirred consciences.”

Echoing similar sentiments, the MP for Nsuta-Kwaman Beposo, Adelaide Agyeiwaa Ntim, hailed Daddy Lumba as a cultural treasure and urged the government to honour him with a state burial.

“Daddy Lumba’s songs transcend generations, touching on themes of love, life, hardship, and celebration. His contribution to Ghana’s music industry is invaluable. He was a pioneer of both the highlife and hiplife genres, mentoring many musicians,” she said.

Madam Ntim, who spoke on behalf of her constituents and traditional leaders from Nsuta-Kwaman, also proposed national honours to immortalize Daddy Lumba’s legacy.

She further called for the establishment of an initiative to preserve and promote his vast musical works for future generations.

The passionate calls from lawmakers reflect the national outpouring of grief and admiration for Daddy Lumba, whose career spanned over three decades, producing a repertoire of iconic hits that shaped Ghanaian music and culture.
