Controversial Ghanaian musician Patapaa, born Justice Amoa, has taken over social media trends following the emergence of a video from the one-week celebration of his late mother, Akua Boatemaa.

On Tuesday, February 17, 2026, Patapaa and his family gathered at their family home in Agona Swedru to observe the traditional one-week memorial following her passing.

The musician’s mother reportedly died on January 15, 2026, with news of her demise first shared by Winneba-based media personality Emmanuel Kwesi Aboagye Essibu, popularly known as DJ Linguist, who expressed his condolences to the bereaved family.

In a video shared by Gossips24TV on TikTok, the “One Corner” hitmaker appeared in a sombre mood as he interacted with sympathisers who had gathered to support the family.

However, the footage drew attention for an unusual moment. Patapaa was seen holding a yellow polythene bag said to contain donations from attendees—an act some social media users claimed defied typical traditional customs where designated family heads usually manage such contributions.

While the musician remained calm and seemingly unbothered, murmurs could be heard from some family members in the background, adding to the tension captured in the clip.
