Renowned Ghanaian sound engineer and music producer, Uncle Fred Kyei Mensah, popularly known as Fredyma, has weighed in on the ongoing marital controversy involving Bishop Daniel Obinim and his wife, gospel musician Florence Obinim.
In a Facebook post, Fredyma appealed to the couple to put an end to their public exchanges, warning that washing their dirty linen in public could have lasting consequences for their family, ministry, and children.
His comments come after weeks of public back-and-forth between the couple. Florence Obinim recently opened up about challenges in their marriage during media interviews, stating that she would be willing to accept a divorce if Bishop Obinim wanted one.
The bishop later responded by cautioning his wife against making further public comments about their relationship and urged her to focus on promoting her music instead.
Reacting to the entire brouhaha, Fredyma, who revealed he has enjoyed a happy marriage for the past 37 years, said he and his wife made a commitment never to involve family members, friends, pastors or the public whenever they encountered misunderstandings.
According to him, although couples may eventually forgive each other after disagreements, those who become privy to the issues often do not, making reconciliation even more difficult.
Drawing from his personal relationship with the Obinims, Fredyma disclosed that he lived with the family for three years beginning in 2014 and witnessed first-hand the love and care they shared. He recounted how Bishop Obinim employed him at OBTV and even paid his children’s university fees after he lost his business and properties during the June 3, 2015 flood and fire disaster.
Because of those experiences, he described Bishop Obinim and Florence as one of the most loving and caring couples he has encountered in his 60 years of life.
“I don’t know what triggered this misunderstanding, but they are humans just like everyone else,” he wrote, adding that he was saddened by the insults, false allegations and ridicule the couple have been subjected to on social media.
Fredyma revealed that he had privately reached out to both Bishop Obinim and Florence Obinim, but noted that tensions currently appear to be high, making mediation a delicate matter.
He cautioned people hoping for the collapse of the marriage to reconsider their stance, asking what anyone stood to gain from seeing the family separated.
Addressing the couple directly, the veteran music producer reminded them that they have a divine responsibility to lead God’s people and that their children’s future reputation could suffer if the public dispute continues.
He warned that social media users would not easily forget the controversy and urged them to stop explaining themselves publicly.
