Veteran Kumawood actress Mercy Asiedu, together with her husband, Nana Agyemang Badu Duah I, and their movie production company, Mesduah Production, have made a generous donation of GH¢50,000 towards the medical treatment of veteran actor Kwaku Kwakye.

The amount serves as seed money for a major fundraising campaign aimed at raising GH¢700,000 to cater for the actor’s medical expenses as he battles a serious illness that reportedly requires urgent treatment outside Ghana.

In a video sighted on Papa Jay TV, Mercy Asiedu appealed passionately to Ghanaians, movie lovers, colleagues in the entertainment industry, corporate bodies and philanthropists to come to the aid of the veteran actor.

According to the celebrated actress, the total amount needed for Kwaku Kwakye’s treatment is beyond what his family can afford, making it necessary for everyone to contribute whatever they can.

She disclosed that after discussions with her husband and the management of Mesduah Production, they decided to contribute GH¢50,000 to kick-start the fundraising exercise and encourage others to also lend their support.

Mercy Asiedu noted that Kwaku Kwakye has dedicated many years of his life to entertaining Ghanaians through Kumawood movies and deserves the love and support of the public during this difficult period.

She also pleaded with individuals both in Ghana and abroad not to ignore the actor’s plight, stressing that every contribution, regardless of the amount, could help save his life.

It is hoped that the GH¢50,000 donation will inspire more individuals and organisations to contribute towards the remaining amount required to fly the veteran actor abroad for specialized medical care.
