The family of legendary Highlife musician Daddy Lumba has formally informed the Ghanaian government of his death.
On Monday, August 25, relatives of the late singer met with Chief of Staff Julius Debrah at the Jubilee House, where they officially announced his death. The visit also touched on funeral preparations and the possibility of state support in honouring his legacy.
The family revealed that a one-week memorial observance will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium. The gathering is expected to draw musicians, dignitaries, and fans who wish to celebrate Daddy Lumba’s enduring influence on Ghanaian music.

Sharing images of the delegation’s visit online, a post from Daddy Lumba’s official Instagram account stated: “The Chief of Staff, Honourable Julius Debrah, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, today received a delegation from the Parkoso Ekoɔna Ebusua, the Fosuh Family, and the Funeral Planning Committee of the late Charles Kwadwo Fosuh (Daddy Lumba). The delegation officially announced his passing and confirmed that the One-Week Observation will be held on Saturday, 30th August 2025, at the University of Ghana Sports Complex.”
Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, died on July 26, 2025, after a brief illness. Tributes have poured in nationwide, with admirers remembering him as one of the most influential voices in Ghana’s Highlife tradition.
