Ghanaian rapper M.anifest has reflected on the profound impact of Daddy Lumba, celebrating the late highlife icon’s unmatched musical legacy and artistic evolution.

In a July 28 interview on Channel One TV, M.anifest praised Lumba’s ability to blend talent, mystique, and lyrical depth into a body of work that has remained influential for decades.

“His music will live on. He has made great music; he’s the rare case where the legend and the mystic and the actual output of the music meet, and then it works. He was a hitmaker, but he had the lyricism. I think posterity will be kind to him, and we are all grateful for what he contributed. His DNA will not leave us anytime soon,” he said.

The rapper highlighted Lumba’s musical versatility, explaining that the artist began within the boundaries of highlife but later redefined his sound to transcend genres.

“They might begin somewhere, but they manage to transcend genre. And I think with almost four decades of work, at least three-plus decades, Lumba literally transcended genre,” he said.

M.anifest added that Lumba’s career progression made him synonymous with innovation. “So, it became more about Daddy Lumba. You can associate him with Borga Highlife, different versions of highlife; he was prolific, he was relevant through different eras. Just like other people, at some point, they go beyond genre,” he explained.

Daddy Lumba died on July 26, 2025, following a short illness at The Bank Hospital in Cantonments, Accra.

Mention My Name Again And You’ll Hear from Me – Mr Drew Fires Back At DopeNation Over Songwriting Claims

Ghanaian artiste, Mr Drew, has fired back at music duo DopeNation, warning them to keep his name out of their interviews and show respect for his brand.

His outburst follows recent comments by DopeNation, who claimed they played a crucial role in co-writing and producing Drew’s popular track “This Year,” yet were never credited for their contribution.

In an interview with Headless YouTuber, DopeNation criticized the music industry’s tendency to overlook behind-the-scenes collaborators once a song becomes successful. They cited both Mr Drew and Sefa as artistes who, in their view, failed to acknowledge the creative input they received.

“It got to a time, you produce and artistes don’t go to acknowledge you as the producer or even as a co-writer on the song. That is a big deal for us because we are about the work,” said the duo. “There’s Mr Drew and there’s Sefa; these artistes are people we sat down and write songs and everything in the room.”

Referring specifically to “This Year,” DopeNation claimed that Drew showed up at their studio with nothing more than scattered notes and no clear plan. “He had just scribbled words, he did not have the actual words for the song so we had to take him through our process of recording,” they explained.

In response to these allegations, Mr Drew took to X on July 29, 2025, to issue a stern warning. He called the remarks disrespectful and accused DopeNation of trying to stir controversy for attention.

“Yo @GhDopeNation I love what yall do but don’t disrespect me or my brand .. you could have had your interview without mentioning my name .. next time you go interview wey you mention my name you go hear am .. bunch of lame guys throwing tantrums,” he posted.

Lil Win Expresses Disappointment Over Date Clash Between Daddy Lumba’s Vigil and His Movie Premiere

0

Pained Lil Win has voiced his disappointment in both the government and the Creative Arts Agency (CAA) for what he describes as poor coordination regarding the scheduling of a national candlelight vigil for the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba.

The actor-cum-movie producer expressed frustration that the vigil, scheduled for 2 August 2025, coincides with the premiere of his highly anticipated film, Ibrahim Traoré, based on the life of the iconic Burkinabè revolutionary leader.

Lilwin who spoke with emotions, added that the premiere, which is set to take place simultaneously in Accra and Kumasi, marks a significant milestone in his career.

He revealed that he has invested over a million dollars into the production and spent years planning the release.

“I’ve poured my heart, soul, and over a million dollars into this project,” Lil Win said. “It took years of planning, and now the date clashes with a major national event. Couldn’t there have been better coordination from the authorities?”

As argued by Lilwin, Daddyu Lumba’s candle vigil, which is expected to receive national attention, will overshadow the premiere of his film, potentially affecting both attendance and media coverage.

“Why did Daddy Lumba’s family choose the same date as my premiere?” he asked emotionally. “I’ve invested everything into this. Is it an attempt to sabotage my work?”

“There’s always some form of resentment when it comes to my progress,” he stated. “But I won’t stop pushing.”

I’m proud to have inspired many actors and actresses, including you. I’ve transitioned to live band and I’m loving it. You’re also making music, and I’m proud to have inspired many actors and actresses, including you. Just that you make noise on beat like some Bantama ‘kwenkwen’ seller

Taking a firm jab at LilWin’s assertion of being the current face of Ghanaian cinema, Agya Koo added:

You claim your time is now? Nigerian movies weren’t widely accepted in Ghana back in my day, but my movies were the talk of the town.

You’re chasing recognition in Nigeria, yet you’re claiming to be the king? Keep pushing the boundaries of art – and stop making noise, Actor Kwame
