Chairman Wontumi reportedly hospitalised after hours of EOCO interrogation

Andy Appiah Kubi, the lawyer for the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, has confirmed that his client has been hospitalised following Wontumi’s arrest and detention by the Economic and Organised Crime (EOCO) detectives.

In an exclusive interview with JoyNews, Mr Kubi disclosed that Chairman Wontumi was rushed to the hospital after about six hours of interrogation by Economic and Organised Crime (EOCO) officials. “My client has been taken to hospital for medical treatment,” Mr Kubi announced.

Speaking on what transpired during the interrogation, Mr Kubi noted that Wontumi’s legal team gave their statements as required. He further stated that the NPP regional chairman answered all questions asked by the EOCO officials, including responses to allegations levelled against him.

He explained that Wontumi’s interrogation was not over. As such, they were hoping to return the next day, on May 28, 2025, to pick up from where they had left.

The lawyer was, however, categorical that they would not return to the EOCO headquarters for further interrogation if the politician’s health did not improve, insisting his client would only return once discharged by doctors.

“Nevertheless, we have also received this after a writ of summons from Axim Bank, and we are going to respond to the pleading tomorrow (May 28, 2025). I am very hopeful that we will be able to mount a defence of the writ,” Mr Kubi said in the interview with the media.

Lil Win claims to have rejected $20,000 bribe to halt film on Burkina Faso’s Ibrahim Traoré

Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, has claimed he rejected a $20,000 offer to shelve his upcoming film centred on Burkina Faso’s military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

The highly anticipated film, titled The Last African Hero, is a biographical portrayal of Traoré’s rise to power and leadership in Burkina Faso.

The project has sparked considerable buzz since Lil Win released a teaser trailer on May 21, showing cast members, including himself, dressed in military regalia reminiscent of Traoré and his revolutionary comrades.

However, the film’s production has not been without controversy. In a video shared on social media, Lil Win disclosed that he and his team were approached by an unidentified individual allegedly sent by a powerful figure who wished to stop the movie from being completed.

“A man I don’t know came to meet me,” Lil Win said in the video. “He said his boss had sent him to persuade me to drop the project. He mentioned there were gifts prepared for my team and me — and to prove his seriousness, he presented $20,000.”

Lil Win displayed what appeared to be an envelope of U.S. dollars in the video, asserting that he had turned down the bribe out of principle and commitment to the film’s purpose.

“I am not for sale,” he said firmly. “This story deserves to be told.”

Despite the attempt to suppress the project, Lil Win has received a groundswell of support from fans and prominent figures in the Ghanaian creative industry. Veteran hiplife musician Okyeame Kwame is among those publicly backing the actor, urging him to stand firm and move forward with the release.

The rising star praised Omar Sterling for going beyond the ordinary in his lyrical delivery.

“Omar Sterling is a poet. I always say that his rap is always different.

The storytelling—he shares stories about his life or things happening in real time, and the way he puts the lyrics together helps the listener understand what he is saying. That always makes me very happy.

Though Gyakie is not known for rap, she shared that her love for the genre occasionally influences her music. She described her sound as eclectic, blending various influences from the diverse genres she was exposed to growing up.

Nana Agradaa has responded to a viral video showing her husband discarding a court summons, stating that he had every right to do so because he was not the intended recipient.

The incident followed Agradaa’s appearance before the Tema High Court on May 26, 2025, in connection with a GH¢20 million defamation lawsuit filed by gospel singer Empress Gifty. The lawsuit stems from public remarks made by Agradaa that Gifty claims damaged her reputation.

After their initial court appearance, a video circulated online capturing the moment Agradaa and her husband, Asiamah, exited the premises, only for the husband to drop the court summons onto the ground.

Reacting to the video, Agradaa explained that the document should not have been handed to her husband in the first place. She argued that because he was not directly involved in the case, he was within his rights to dispose of the summons.

According to Agradaa, her husband had informed court officers that he was not the correct recipient when they attempted to serve him.

She also took the opportunity to address Empress Gifty and her husband, Hopeson Adorye, promising to face them in court. Agradaa dismissed the service of the writ to her spouse as improper and irrelevant to the case, emphasizing that she alone is the subject of the legal action.

Gyakie Unpacks The Creative Spark Behind Her Album ‘After Midnight’

Ghanaian singer-songwriter Gyakie has opened up about the inspiration behind her album title ‘After Midnight’, offering a glimpse into her intimate creative process.

In a recent interview on ‘Daybreak Hitz’ with Doreen Avio, Gyakie explained that the name wasn’t chosen for effect; it was a reflection of when and how the album took shape. The tranquil, introspective hours past midnight served as her creative sanctuary.

“The name After Midnight came from how and when the songs were recorded,” she stated.

“Most of the studio sessions took place after midnight. I like to record at dawn because that’s when most people are asleep, and everything is quiet. That’s when I’m able to create properly. It has always been my favorite time of day, so the name of the project just made sense.”

Kojo Cue Urges Musicians To Prioritize Mental Health

Ghanaian rapper Kojo Cue has advised musicians to prioritize mental health. He first opened up about his mental health challenge in an interview with ZionFelix.

In a recent chat with Graphic Showbiz, Cue called for more honest conversations, especially within the entertainment industry, about mental health.

Born Linford Kennedy Amankwaa, the rapper emphasized the importance of vulnerability, asserting that asking for help should be seen as an act of strength rather than weakness. For him, acknowledging mental health challenges is a critical step toward personal growth and healing.

Cue revealed that his struggles stemmed from two traumatic events that occurred back-to-back in 2020 and 2021. Coupled with the emotional toll of the COVID-19 pandemic, the experiences became overwhelming and prompted him to seek professional help.

“In 2020 and 2021, I faced two back-to-back traumatic experiences that pushed me to my limits. I’m intentionally withholding some details as they relate closely to my upcoming projects, both in theme and execution,” he shared. “However, those events occurring so closely together, alongside the pressures of COVID, became overwhelming. It was this situation that drove me to seek therapy and address the challenges I was facing.”

Travel, he said, became one of his most powerful coping tools. His journeys took him to Nigeria, Kenya, the United States, Italy, and various places within Ghana. Each destination played a role in resetting his mental space.

“I travelled extensively. At one point, I visited Nigeria, then Kenya, spent some time in the US and even lived in Italy for a while. My travels took me all over, including various places here. The essence behind that was simple: a change in environment can often clear your head,” he explained. “It’s similar to how tidying up your room can enhance your mental clarity. When you are in a new space, your brain is flooded with fresh information to process, leaving little room for overthinking or moping. It helps you reset.”

Alongside travel, Kojo Cue credited therapy, nurturing friendships, and even gardening as central to maintaining his emotional balance. Over time, these intentional acts helped him stay grounded and begin to rebuild.

He stressed that his absence from music wasn’t a void but rather a meaningful pause. Every moment away from the limelight, he reflected, carried its own significance and shaped the person he is today.

Now back in the spotlight, Kojo Cue hopes that by sharing his story, he can inspire others to speak up, seek help, and realize they are not alone in their struggles.

Wendy Shay Opens Up About Cyberbullying and How It Nearly Ended Her Career

Award-winning Ghanaian singer Wendy Shay has revealed the emotional toll online bullying has taken on her career, admitting that at one point, the relentless trolling nearly pushed her to give up music entirely.

In a candid interview on the Afrobeats Podcast with Adesope Shopsydoo, the RuffTown Records artiste described herself as the most bullied musician in Ghana, citing how the harsh public backlash almost derailed her dreams.

According to Wendy, much of the early criticism stemmed from comparisons with the late Ebony Reigns, whose untimely death preceded Wendy’s entry into the music industry.

Many fans accused her of attempting to imitate Ebony’s style and sound—a perception that triggered widespread trolling.

“At a point, my mum asked me to quit music and return to Germany because the trolling was overwhelming and it affected everyone in my family,” she recounted. “Some of my relatives were even kind of shy to associate with me at the time.”

Wendy revealed the bullying wasn’t just verbal—it was deeply personal and often humiliating.

“Imagine they take your face, edit it to make you look like an old woman, and start mocking and laughing at you,” she said. “They even said I wasn’t talented enough. It was crazy. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy, but it built me.”

Despite the pain, the “Uber Driver” hitmaker chose to stay the course, thanks to a loyal circle of supporters who believed in her talent and potential.

That perseverance has paid off. Over the years, Wendy Shay has become one of Ghana’s most successful female artistes, winning numerous accolades including at the 3Music Awards and the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

Her resilience continues to shine through in her music. Her latest single, It’s Too Late, is currently enjoying heavy rotation across radio and television platforms and has topped various music charts both locally and internationally.

Wendy’s story is a powerful reminder of the emotional cost of fame—and the strength it takes to endure. Her journey from public ridicule to global recognition stands as a testament to courage, determination, and the power of self-belief.

No Woman Can Starve Me – Veteran actor, Fred Amugi reveals

Veteran Ghanaian actor, Fred Amugi, has won the hearts of many once again, not through his acting this time, but through his culinary skills.

In a recent appearance on GTV’s Breakfast Show, the seasoned actor confidently declared, “No woman can ever make me go hungry,” citing his lifelong passion for cooking.

Amugi revealed that his signature dish is okro stew, which he uniquely prepares with coconut oil rather than the more traditional palm oil.

In his household, he shared, okro stew is often paired with rice, proving his versatility in the kitchen. Jokingly, he offered to cook for show host Kafui Dey, assuring him that his cooking would be so good, no one would suspect a woman had made the meal.

He fondly recounted how, at just nine years old, his mother assigned him cooking duties for entire weeks. When he wasn’t behind the stove, she had him observe as she prepared meals, instilling in him practical skills that have lasted a lifetime.

“My father used to tell me, ‘What the girls can do, you should be able to do too,’” Amugi said, emphasizing the importance of self-sufficiency and equality in domestic responsibilities.

Beyond okro stew, Amugi proudly stated that he can also pound and turn fufu on his own—an impressive feat and a testament to his deep connection with Ghanaian culinary traditions.

While on the show, Amugi also took the opportunity to speak about his latest stage project, Ghana Must Go, written by celebrated playwright Latif Abubakar.
