Founder and leader of the Believers Worship Centre, Stephen Adom Kyei Duah, has broken his silence following Ghana’s defeat to Croatia in their final group-stage match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars faced Croatia on Saturday, June 27, 2026, in a crucial encounter that determined their final position in the group standings. After a hard-fought contest, Ghana suffered a 2-0 defeat but still secured qualification to the knockout stage of the tournament.
The result sparked widespread discussions among football fans, with some suggesting that Ghana may have preferred finishing in a position that would help them avoid a potentially difficult clash against Portugal in the next round.
Prior to the tournament, Stephen Adom Kyei Duah had publicly offered prayers for the Black Stars, expressing confidence that the national team would win all three of their group-stage matches. His prayers came after the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, paid a courtesy visit to him at the Believers Worship Centre.
Addressing his congregation during a church service on Sunday, June 28, 2026, the revered religious leader reflected on Ghana’s performance and qualification for the next stage of the competition.
“I learnt we lost the match against Croatia, but we still qualified. The match has indeed brought unity in Ghana. People who are not fans of watching TV are now glued to it because of football,” he told congregants.
Despite expressing relief over Ghana’s progression, Adom Kyei Duah admitted he was concerned about the challenges that lie ahead in the knockout rounds.
“Eii, I heard we are in the knockout stage, but for the love of our country, we will have a prayer session for the Black Stars on Friday,” he announced.
The leader of the Philadelphia Movement further disclosed plans to hold a special prayer gathering on Friday, July 3, 2026, where he intends to intercede on behalf of the national team ahead of their next fixture.
According to him, the session will include the burning of incense as part of prayers for divine intervention.
“On that Friday, I will burn incense here and ask Adom Nyame to go and play the ball with the Black Stars,” he said.
His comments have since generated significant reactions on social media, with some supporters praising his continued spiritual support for the team, while others shared differing views on the role of faith in football success.
