It was all cheers at the seat of the president in Accra when the Black Stars of Ghana booked their spot at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Flagstaff House erupted with cheers at the news of the team’s win over Nigeria.

The qualification coincided with the birthday of the president which fell on today.

The Black Stars held the Super Eagles of Nigeria to a 1-1 draw at the Moshood Abiola Sports Stadium in Abuja, emerging as the winners of the tie following a goalless draw in Kumasi last week.

Staff of the presidency sang and chanted victory songs after the win. They were subsequently joined by the president and his vice, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who joined them in jubilation.

The jubilant staff also sang birthday songs for the president.

Akufo-Addo congratulates Black Stars

The president took to his twitter handle to congratulate the Black Stars on their victory and qualification to the World Cup.

He expressed his pride in the team and acknowledged how they made the nation proud.

“Warm congratulations to the Senior National Football Team, the Black Stars, for their dogged display in Abuja, and qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. I am very proud of the team’s exploits. They have made the entire nation proud,” he tweeted.
