Ghanaian actor Wayoosi has expressed concern about the changing face of comedy in the country, recalling a time when humour thrived without reliance on insults.
“Comedy has changed. We used to make people laugh without insults. Now, it feels like that’s all some producers rely on,” Wayoosi wrote on X.
The Kumawood star recalled how Ghanaian films of the past managed to capture massive audiences despite limited access to television and the absence of social media.
“Our movies were still incredibly popular, even without the internet and with limited TV access. People would go out of their way to watch,” he said.
Wayoosi’s comments touch on a wider debate about the state of Ghana’s film and comedy industry, where some critics argue that the use of insults has become an easy substitute for creative storytelling.
